KEYMACRO is a simple but powerful tool that allows you to create macros to act like hotkeys that execute a series of actions. You can use macros to assign one or more hotkeys to a program, browser or an area of the screen, or you can use macros to create complex commands that can be applied to multiple programs at once. Creating macros is easy! Just use the “Create Macro” button on the toolbar.
“Create Macro” will open a blank macro editor. In the editor, you can write in plain-text any text you want to apply to the macro. The application will then translate the text to a sequence of keyboard shortcut keystrokes.
For example, if you type the following text in the macro editor:
then the resulting macro will execute the following:
press “Ctrl+G” then press “Ctrl+P” then press “Ctrl+W” then press “Ctrl+G”
The text you typed in the macro editor will be translated to the keyboard shortcut sequences that are typed out when you execute the macro.
More than just a simple text editor for Mac users
Macros are just that: they are a sequence of keyboard shortcuts. The macros stored in KeyMacro can also include any other commands you would like to execute. For example, you can use macros to open multiple web pages or files with the same extension with one keyboard shortcut instead of typing out a whole command.
Once you have created the macro, you can then store it for future use. You can use the “Save Macro” button on the toolbar. The macro will then be stored with a name you specify, saved to your current settings file, and a shortcut key sequence will be added to your Mac’s keyboard shortucts.
You can even edit existing macros that you have stored in your KeyMacro library. Simply double-click the macro’s name in the library or right-click it and choose “Edit” to open the macro editor.
Editing macros is easy! Simply type in any changes you want to make. When you have finished, choose “Save Macro” and the changes will be saved.
Here are some tips on using macros in KeyMacro:
Macro name: Create a name for your macro, so you know what it is for later. You can choose to include anything you want in your macro name, for example: “Goto URL”. You can include spaces in your macro name, for
